MEP Seán Kelly Visits MCS for EU Engagement Initiative

Millstreet Community School recently had the honour of welcoming MEP Seán Kelly as part of the *Active and Inclusive Citizenship: Communicating Civic Engagement and Belonging to Young European Citizens* initiative, facilitated by IRD Duhallow. The initiative aims to deepen students’ understanding of the European Union’s role in their daily lives and encourage discussion on EU values, challenges, and Ireland’s place within the union.

Before the visit, students engaged in thought-provoking discussions, reflecting on key questions such as *“What is a union?”* and *“What does it mean for Ireland to be part of the EU?”* Through facilitated workshops, students explored EU principles and their relevance to modern Ireland. They also had the opportunity to present their perspectives on Europe’s most pressing challenges, with nominated spokespersons sharing their ideas and questions directly with MEP Seán Kelly.

Joining the discussion were IRD Duhallow’s CEO, Maura Walsh, who supported the initiative’s goal of fostering active citizenship among young people. The visit provided an invaluable opportunity for students to engage with EU representatives and gain insight into the importance of civic engagement in shaping Europe’s future.

Millstreet Community School extends its gratitude to Seán Kelly MEP, Maura Walsh, Nollaig Murphy and Leonora Kelly (IRD Duhallow) for their time and contributions to this meaningful event.
