Minister Michael Moynihan T.D. Makes Historic Visit to Millstreet Community School
It was a privilege for Millstreet Community School to welcome Minister of State at the Department of Education with Responsibility for Special Education and Inclusion, Michael Moynihan T.D., to our school today. This visit marked his first official visit to a post-primary school in his new role as Minister of State.
The event underscored the importance of inclusive education and highlighted the school’s commitment to fostering an environment where every student feels valued and supported. During his visit, Minister Moynihan reaffirmed his unwavering support for special education, commending the school for its efforts in ensuring that inclusivity remains at the heart of its educational ethos.
A large assembly of students gathered to greet the Minister, demonstrating their enthusiasm and pride in their school’s achievements. Their spirited participation during the event was a testament to the positive culture and community spirit that define Millstreet Community School, further emphasizing the significance of providing inclusive opportunities for all students.
The timing of Minister Moynihan’s visit was particularly notable, as the school proudly announced the opening of its first-ever Special Class for ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) students this coming September. This milestone initiative is a significant development for local families, as it ensures that students with additional needs can receive the necessary support within their own community.
After the assembly, the Minister took part in a brief tour of the school, where he had the opportunity to visit the new Special Class location and discuss plans for an upcoming extension. His visit highlighted the ongoing collaborative efforts between the school, the local community, and the Department of Education to create a positive, inclusive learning environment for all students.
On behalf of the students, staff, Board of Management, and the wider school community, sincere thanks were extended to Minister Moynihan for his time, continued support, and advocacy. The school leadership expressed their confidence that with the Minister’s backing, the inclusive education model at Millstreet Community School will continue to thrive, ensuring that no child is left behind.
