MCS reopens as normal on Thursday, January 6th 2022

To all Students and Parents/Guardians;

Happy New Year to all our school community. I hope you had an enjoyable, restful and safe Christmas break.

At a meeting facilitated today by the Minister for Education, Norma Foley TD, Department officials and Public Health representatives it was confirmed schools will reopen as planned on Thursday 6th January 2022.

Central to this briefing was the following:

 Education stakeholders were briefed by the Minister and Public Health representatives on how the Covid-19 mitigation measures in place in schools have been reviewed by Public Health and will continue in place in the coming term. Public Health remains of the view that these mitigation measures are effective and appropriate. Furthermore, Public Health officials advised that there is no Public Health rationale to delay the reopening of schools later this week.

Along with every other school in the country, we have had great difficulty in sourcing substitute teachers this year. I am very grateful to those teachers who came on board at short notice and to our existing teachers who have gone over and above their normal duties to ensure we could remain open in the period before Christmas. We will, as always, continue to do our best for our students and follow Department of Education and Public Health procedures in doing so.

The current wave of Covid-19 infection is unprecedented in scale. We have managed to stand firm and keep it out of our school thus far. I appeal to you all to continue to observe all our procedures and protocols when you return to school on Thursday. To those of you who may be displaying any symptoms of Covid-19, the procedure is simple…do not, under any circumstances, come to school. Follow the current public health advice and return to school only when it is safe for you to do so.

We look forward to seeing you all again on Thursday.

Le gach dea-ghuí,

Pól Ó Síodhcháin, Principal
