Dragon Fly Racing Millstreet Community School Formula 1

We are 6 Transition year students taking part in the F1 in schools competition for 2020-2021. F1 in Schools is the fastest, most exciting STEM competition for secondary school students. Follow us on our journey where learn how to design, race and build our very own miniature Formula 1 car. https://www.f1inschools.ie/

We are delighted to announce that Team Dragonfly Racing has made it to the Irish National Finals!

Given the current public health situation, it is now not feasible to stage in-person events for the remainder of the season. In light of this fact, regional finals will not go ahead and 97 teams automaticaly qualify for the National Final.

The finals will take place over a number of days in the week of April 19th-23rd, finishing with an awards ceremony on Friday the 23rd of April.

Our roles in the team

Our aim is to work as a team although everyone has their own roles in the team, we make sure that everyone is communicating, motivating each other and working well together. We meet every Tuesday morning for 80 minutes where we have a dedicated class to F1. We also keep in touch through our school emails, teams and Snapchat. Our roles in the team consist of:

Beibhinn Moynihan- Team Manager and social media manager Tomas Cronin- Merchandise and research manager Lauren Kelleher- Design engineer and social media manager Dan Agu- Manufacturing engineer Ryan Carroll- Graphic designer Daniel Heaney- Material research

Our logo

As part of our project, we have looked at different options for our team name, colours, and branding. We decided to use the name Dragonfly Racing as an example of where we see aerodynamics in nature. A dragonfly is used to represent the spokes in the wheel of a car, chevrons are used to represent the idea of moving from one destination to the next, and the shape to the left of the wheel represents the motion of air interacting with a solid object. After coming up with a team name, we now needed a logo. We wanted to incorporate our name into the logo.

Our sponsors

In order to raise funds to get our team started and develop our f1 car we needed to raise money. Firstly we made a plan, we then made a sponsorship letter an sent it to various companies in our locality. Listed below are our sponsors that will help us succeed in the competition.
