F1 in Schools-Polaris and Bolta Hit the Track
The TYs headed to UL to round off their year with the final event- F1 in Schools. The two teams have been developing both the technical and business side of this project all year, so were delighted to see it all come to fruition on the specially designed track and compressed air power system. Well done to both teams and to coordinator, Mr Kelleher.
F1 in Schools is a fast, exciting STEM competition for secondary school students. Students learn how to design, race and build their very own miniature Formula 1 car, developing a wide range of skills in the process, as well as having great fun.
The student teams put their talents to the ultimate test by racing the miniature F1 cars they designed and manufactured to a comprehensive set of technical regulations using professional CAD and CFD software.
Assessed across a variety of areas - including car speed, engineering quality, brand identity and verbal presentation skills - by a panel of 30 industry professionals.
F1 in Schools has had a presence in Ireland for over a decade. Historically a high-performing country, four Irish teams have achieved a place on the World Finals podium to date.
Dr Éamonn Kelly, Programme Director of MSc Project Management in University of Limerick’s Kemmy Business School, said: “The F1 in Schools 2024 Ireland National Finals was a celebration of innovation, teamwork, and STEM education.
