County Hurling Final
Millstreet senior hurlers returned victorious from Banteer on Tuesday in the County Final versus Scoil Mhuire, completing a remarkable seven days in the school. Most of the team were fresh from their Munster football success last week and MCS now holds two titles. Well done to the squad and to mentors Ms English and Mr Kelleher. It’s fantastic to see such success in this year of 50th celebrations in Millstreet and with the level of committment and dedication this team has shown, they’ll be well able for all future challenges!

CORK POST-PRIMARY SCHOOLS SHC ‘D’ FINAL
Millstreet Community School 8-22
Scoil Mhuire Kanturk 2-9
Millstreet Community School carved out a comprehensive victory over Scoil Mhuire, Kanturk in the Cork Post Primary Schools D SHC Final played in Banteer. A closer encounter had been anticipated but Millstreet possessed too much power, pace and scoring ability for their opponents.
For Kanturk, there was the consolation of a brave comeback in the opening half when ever so close to erasing an eight point deficit. Crucially for Millstreet, they succeeded in breaking down the Kanturk flow and two quick fire goals had consolidated their position by the interval.

Indeed as the contest progressed, Millstreet possessed an aggressive offensive and the reward surfaced with a glut of scores. Operating a fast and fluent brand of hurling, Millstreet dominated from the off, a Michael Thornton goal helped build a 1-5 to 0-0 grip.

Kanturk settled and took encouragement from the play of Ryan O’Leary, Adam Lynch, Brion O’Keeffe and Fionn O’Connor. A long range free by O’Connor found the Millstreet net, close to a second green flag, O’Connor’s effort came off the upright, Darragh Casey connected only for his effort to whistle outside the right hand post.

Cork hurlers need a win in Wexford Park to round out a promising revival
The let off focused Millstreet, the run up to the break most productive, goals in quick succession from Rory McCarthy and Conor Lehane helped secure a 3-11 to 1-5 advantage at the break. On the restart, Millstreet continued to enjoy an input through the workrate of Seamus Moynihan, Christopher Byrnes, Edward Ring and Cian McCaul.
And there was no stopping a rampant Millstreet attack, Keenan Murphy goaled and Lehane completed his hat trick with a pair. All credit to Banteer ‘keeper Oisín O’Leary on producing a number of outstanding saves throughout the course of the hour.
However Millstreet added to their goal tally from Alan O’Leary, that cancelled out by Michael Dunstan at the opposite end. The outcome was purely academic, Millstreet substitutes found the range highlighted on a Seán Murphy goal that put the icing on an impressive performance.
A productive spell for Millstreet Community School having won a Munster Post Primary Schools SFC title eight days previously.
