MCS Master Munster!
The MCS Senior footballers achieved a memorable victory in horrendous conditions at Rathkeale astroturf today against a very strong fellow community school side, St John Bosco from Kildysert in Clare. With the howling gale favouring neither team, both sides struggled to establish any rhythm, with scores needing to be hard won. Millstreet’s opener came from Hugh Linehan, followed by scores from Alan O’Leary and Louis Hanover., leaving the scores level at five each at the break. In a nail-biting second half, Alan O’Leary hit the net to put three between the sides. Millstreet then shipped a goal from a penalty, only to see Alan O’Leary convert a Millstreet penalty in the next attack. Pulling three clear with moments remaining, Kildysert struck the net for the equaliser, bringing the game to extra time at 2-9 each. Millstreet led by one at the extra-time break and held on to the lead to see out the game and land a fantastic victory. Scorers: Hugh Linehan 0-3; Louis Hanover 0-5 (3F); Alan O’Leary 2-5 (1-0 P). Well done to the captain Hugh Linehan and the whole panel, and to coaches Mr O’Neill and Mr O’Callaghan. Thanks to the hardy supporters who braved the elements and also played a vital part in the outcome!
