"Say Cheese" Puts a Big Smile on Opening Audience

The TY school play, one of the longest-running MCS traditions, made a return after six years at a great opening night last night. The Bernard Farrell classic was an ideal play to resume drama in the school, with a complex and hilarious plot showcasing the considerable talent in the group.

Opening night nerves soon settled as Muireann Lynch, Elizabeth O’Mahony and Luke O’Connor took to the stage, establishing the plot in lively exchanges. They were soon joined by Christopher Byrnes, Anna Murphy, Ella Hickey and Sean Murphy, the stressed family at the heart of the story.

Katie McCaul and Mark Hickey soon drew the laughs as the complications built up, and the final scenes culminated with hilarious complexites, ably played by Katie Sheehan, Oleksii Shemshur and Thomas O’Connor. It’s not to be missed, so make sure you are there, Wednesday and Thursday night, Feb. 28th and 29th at 7:30 pm.

Lighting, sound and set were perfect, with Martin Buckley providing the special effects and the set, built by Tony Dineen and decorated by the TY Creative Engagement team, looked great. The canteen was transformed into an intimate theatre, creating a supportive atmosphere for the cast, many on stage for the first time.

Congratulations to all performers, and to directors Jennifer O’Donoghue and Jola Radon.
