€25,000 in Community Recognition Funding Awarded to MCS

Millstreet Community School is delighted to be awarded €25,000 through the Community Recognition Fund 2023. Principal, Pól Ó Síodhcháin, Uasal, commended the Parents’ Council of the school for their assistance in seeking an award of funding to help redevelop the existing hardcourt playing surface as a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA).

Mr Ó Síodhcháin stated: “The Community Recognition Fund is a major initiative designed to specifically support communities across the country that are hosting people from Ukraine and other countries. Our school plays a key role locally in educating all students to achieve their potential, regardless of their background.

The award of over €200,000 specifically to Millstreet projects is a substantial acknowledgement by the Government of the incredible community in Millstreet, the many organisations working together to improve the town and its environs and of the welcome received by all who come here.”

Announcing the first tranche of the successful project, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said: “I am delighted to announce the approval of €50m for projects all over Ireland under this major investment. Communities the length and breadth of the country have really responded to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, opening their homes and facilities to people very much in need. I want to thank you for your generosity and kindness. You epitomise the very best of the wonderful community spirit we have across Ireland.

The development of a MUGA in the grounds of the school will benefit everyone, according to Mr. Ó Síodhcháin, who also thanked all who supported the recent Fashion Show in raising further funding for the MUGA: “We managed to raise over €5,000 with the Fashion Show, an event that epitomised the Millstreet ‘Meitheal’. It was run by the Parents’ Council and the Transition Year class and had amazing support from businesses supplying clothing, sponsorship and raffle prizes, not the mention the 440 people who attended on the night!”

We look forward to the continued improvement of our school facilities in tandem with increased investment in Millstreet Town in general. Ar aghaidh linn le chéile!
