School Examiner- Newspaper visit to MCS

TY English teacher, Ms Coakley, facilitated an interactive talk and workshop for TYs with Tom Fitzpatrick, editor of The Irish Examiner, and Lisa Buckley, PR manager for 'News Brands Ireland'. This event aimed to build on the school's experience with 'Press Pass', a news literacy program aimed at second level students. 

The Irish Examiner also had staff photographer, Eddie O'Hare in attendance to document the day, and also to answer questions from budding photojournalists. 

Tom Fitzpatrick spent over two hours speaking to, and answering questions from, our students. The session finished up with a workshop whereby students pitched story ideas to the Editor and got real-time feedback. Students showed their interests in the cost of living crisis and the integration of students from different cultures through the lens of GAA, among other far-reaching and varied ideas. 

The Irish Examiner has a daily readership of almost 380,000 people.
