SPOOTS Mini-Company are cleaning up!
Millstreet Community school have been competing successfully in the Student Enterprise Programme for several years and the school’s entrants have won the regional finals for the past two years.
This year we hope to maintain this winning streak as we have a number of fantastic new companies competing yet again. The students love this programme as it is student- led. Groups come up with their own ideas and make all decisions on what products to create, as well as how to deal with production and marketing. This allows students to showcase their talents while learning entrepreneurial skills.
The students love to base their companies around topics that interest them. This year’s crew are once again coming up with the goods and one of their exciting new innovations is the “Spoot”, a sports based product that is sure to be a hit in every home where muddy boots is a problem! We spoke to the “Spoot” creators to find out about their product and their experience in mini-company.
“We are Transition year students from Millstreet Community School competing in this year’s Student Enterprise Competition 2022 with our mini company “Spoots”. We came up with the idea of Spoots when brainstorming for ideas in class. We got our inspiration for Spoots when we discovered we all had a similar problem- cleaning our football boots after training. We realised there was no easy way of cleaning our boots and so we began to try and design a product suitable for this purpose” explained Meabh Crowley and Clara O Keeffe. “Our product is very effective for cleaning boots and we also sell them at the very affordable price of €8”, added Caoimhe Murphy. “We initially designed this product to help people clean their boots, however recently we have had a lot of interest in our products from farmers, who have similar problems washing wellingtons”, John Healy explained. “We are selling our products in Millstreet Community School on a daily basis and are also taking online orders through our Instagram account @spoots_mcs.” said Louis Hanover.
