Jewellers Strike Gold!

Independent learning, creativity, life-skills, teamwork, skills-based learning- Mr O’Callaghan’s TY mini-company- Cool Jewels, have it all. Team members Alannah Lee, Isabel Sibanda, Orla O'Leary, Molly Fleming and Maria Badibanga impressed the judges with a mini-company that showed their skills from concept to end product. The group will now take part in the national finals.

The team started by making earrings using hooks, gemstones, and copper wiring and have since progressed to making necklaces and rings.

As well as creating the jewellery, a huge amount of planning helped ensure their success, including market research, analysing potential materials, promotion, financing and marketing. A pop-up shop in school was an early indication that they had hit on a successful formula for a great business idea. It was this research and analysis that impressed the judges, and you can view what the judges said- click on the link here- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9eAU4l7cqA (announcement on 43 mins).

You too can help the team by choosing something from their fantastic range of jewellery, or by following their online profile on” cooljewelsmcs" on both Facebook and instagram.

The team had to overcome several obstacles, and their problem solving skills were tested by the Covid restrictions, which they overcame by adding an online shopping option. Their motto- “keep it simple and not let our concept snowball into something complicated” was a key aspect of their success.

Best of luck to the group in the next stage and do have a look at their great range of unique designs inspired by nature.
