The TY group have been powering through projects since returning in second term with classes on TEAMS and online TY events continuing to run despite the setbacks.

Mini-Med Royal College of Surgeons Ireland: Ten TY students participated in the week long program (Feb22nd-26th).

"The RCSI Transition Year MiniMed programme takes place annually in RCSI Dublin and RCSI Waterford and offers transition year students the opportunity to experience what it is like to train and work as a doctor. All sections of the programme are carried out by leading professionals in their respective areas with a wide variety of topics – including general practice, heart surgery, pathology, paediatrics, forensic medicine, transplants, obstetrics and gynaecology being covered during the programme. In 2021 RCSI will not host a physical TY MiniMed programme on our St Stephen's Green campus, but instead will hold an exciting virtual programme in February 2021..

  • I wish : All TY girls participated in Iwish event (March 4th). "The world has changed over the last few months but it has not dampened our ambition to support young girls to be agents of change that our world so badly needs right now.  I WISH is committed to showcasing the power of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths to female secondary school students."

  • I WISH is a Volunteer led community committed to showcasing the power of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths to female secondary school students. It is a Showcase event run over 4 DAYS in Ireland where to date we have hosted 22,000 girls from 26 counties, we welcome over 300 teachers per year, 25% representation from Deis Schools complimented by the largest survey of girls in the country.

  • TY Virtual Event (March 11th): All TY to participate in day long virtual event(see attached flyer): "The event, which involves 7 speakers talking through their life experiences, will be streamed to each student device through a link which we will share with you.

We will make it as interactive as possible, with the event being hosted by James Sexton, who has been hosting large shows, such as Ireland's Got Talent for many years and specialises in engagement.

We will also be asking each school for their logo, which will be shown in the background of the stream.

Additionally, after each speaker, the host will ask five questions relating to what the speaker has said. The individual who answers the question first will receive a point for their school and the school with the most points at the end of the event will receive prizes. This is to both incentivise students and add a competitive aspect.

And, of course, after each speaker, there will be an opportunity for students to ask questions. "
