Update from BTYSTE 2019
All went well in the RDS today at BT Young Scientist & Technology 2019. All six teams were very busy. We had two rounds of judging and lots of interested visitors including Cork North West TD, Aindrias Moynihan. Minister for Communications, Climate Action and the Environment, Richard Bruton T.D. and Minister of State at the same Department, Seán Canney T.D. also spent time with our students today.
Students and their teachers returned to their hotel for a while this evening before heading out to a quiz.
Our 6 projects to reach the final stage of BTYSTE 2019 in the RDS are "Can alternative pastures outform artificial fertilizers", conducted by Bevin, Omar and Darren, with teacher J. O Donoghue; "The effects of psoriasis on adolescent mental health in 2018", researched by Hannah and Ria, with teacher J.O Donoghue; "A one-stop shop website for parents of school leavers", investigated by Sarah, Ryan and Sylvester, under the tutelage of D. O Leary; "A geology study of our local quarry including a graphic log" , researched by Diarmuid, James and Joyce, with teacher S. Guerin; "Assessing economic activity using waste types and volumes from a recycling centre", conducted by Daniel and Noah and teacher S. Guerin; “An Investigation of River Pollution in the North Cork Area”, conducted by Luke, Dylan and Patrick with teacher F. Lyons.
We are justifiably proud of all our participants and we salute the efforts of our students and teachers.
