Student centered
The individual need of each student is the most fundamental value informing teaching and learning in MCS. Students are challenged to achieve their full potential in a caring and supportive environment. An extremely broad curriculum facilitates the particular interests and aptitudes of all students. A wide range of extra-curricular activities provides for meaningful holistic development. Student wellbeing is at the heart of all teaching in an atmosphere of care and respect.
Science is a core subject for Junior Cycle and all four sciences are available for Leaving Cert. - Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Agricultural Science. This presents great opportunities for college and career choices. Science is also fostered in extra-curricular activities, especially as part of the school’s ongoing success in the BT Young Scientist and Technology Competitions. Fully equipped laboratories are a priority which allows us the opportunity to carry out as much practical work as possible. This contributes to high student uptake of the sciences.
All “STEAM” (Science, Technology, Art, Engineering, Maths) subjects have a high uptake in MCS. The majority of our students continue to study science related courses in college. Having the opportunity to become acquainted with these subjects in school contributes to our low drop-out rates in college.

MCS has a consistently strong presence at the Young Scientist Competition where the students will develop skills which will be vital in future college studies and careers.
